Bike the Parks

West Virginia’s state parks provide fantastic mountain biking opportunities that feature great trails and the natural beauty found in the parks of the Mountain State.

All skill levels of riders are welcome and beginners are especially encouraged to visit state parks and forests for trail riding events or for biking on your own.

Bike Events in 2008

May 3, 2008 - Mountain Bike the Park Day
Twin Falls Resort State Park
This event is for anyone who likes to mountain bike and/or would like to learn more about mountain biking.

June 7, 2008 - Hike and Bike National Trails Day
Twin Falls Resort State Park
This event is geared toward hikers and mountain bikers. Throughout the day a series of guided hikes and rides will be conducted.

June 28, 2008 - Cass Scenic RR - Bike Off the Mountain
The bike adventure begins as you board with your mountain bike and depart for Bald Knob. You'll visit Whittaker Station a former logging camp and proceed to Oats Run were the engine will take on additional water. The train continues the clib deeper into the wilderness, finally reaching Bald Knob. Your bike adventure begins here. Your decent off the mountain is via forest service roads. All skill levels welcome. A fun ride at your own pace. Helmets are required. Participants are encouraged to bring plenty of water. The mountain bike ride from Bald Knob to Cass is a 2-1/2 hour ride and roughly 12 miles long. Train departs at 11 a.m. Price is $14 adults or children. Reservations required for this Bike the Park event.

July 27. 2008 - 4th Annual Chainring Challenge
Little Beaver State Park
A WVMBA point series race, open to all levels of riders. Registration begins at

August 10 - Black Bear 40K Mountain Bike Race
Kanawha State Forest
Open to all levels of mountain bike riders. Route is through challenging terrain. Experience the ultimate in mountain bike course. Meet at Shelter #8. $

Bike the Parks Days

Find one of the ride dates and/or sites that suits you and come out and join Tire On the Mountain riders. Tire on the Mountain clinics teach skills, have rides according to skill levels, enjoy lunch, and talk. “What we do that we all enjoy most is HAVE FUN !! Isn't that what mountain biking is all about?” says organizer Mike McGraw.

All events are on a Saturday unless noted and ‘helmets on’ for all events.
