Jones Imboden Raid Civil War Weekend

In April 1863 Confederate forces invaded Fairmont, Virginia (now West Virginia) in an attempt to gain control of the strategic B&O Railroad and capture Francis Pierpont, Governor of the Re-Organized Virginia. The park will commemorate this event through various re-enactments and demonstrations.

Watch the Parkersburg Homecoming Fireworks display in a natural park setting on historic Blennerhassett Island. The sternwheeler “Island Belle” will depart from Civitan Park, Belpre, Ohio. Boarding begins at 8:10 p.m. and the boat departs at 8:30 p.m. for the island. Visitors will get to enjoy the island at sunset and have a great riverbank seat to watch the fireworks from the head of the island. The island snack stand and gift shop will be open all evening. Bring a flashlight, lawn chair, or blanket and come join the fun. The sternwheeler will take passengers back to Civitan Park following the fireworks around 11:00 p.m. The cost is $8.00 adults, $7.00 children (3-12), two and under are free. On this autumn evening, electricity is banished when the mansion and island are transformed into flame-lit world of the 18th-century. The soft glow of candlelight will weave a mesmerizing spell round about you as you listen to music, see dancing, or watch a lively game of cards. The island’s cook will be busy preparing a harvest dinner for guests to enjoy before touring the mansion, taking a horse-drawn wagon ride or visiting the servant’s party and other activities on the island. For the holidays
West Virginia state parks offer specific activities or overnight
special event packages on holidays or holiday weekends.
Many parks offer Easter Egg Hunts (day activity), Valentines
or Sweetheart Weekend overnight packaged events, a variety
of Halloween options, and New Year’s Eve Celebrations as
examples. These events vary from a few hours to weekend
opportunities and are listed in this booklet.
Remember: The Calendar is printed by January for the
year, but state parks continue to add events, activities, and
